"I love coming here. They just let kids be kids."

- John Short (Age 7),
To ABC Eyewitness News Reporter,

"When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glance, Out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but it was gone, I cannot put my finger on it now, The child is grown, the dream is gone. I...have become, comfortably numb."

- Roger Waters: Pink Floyd

"A bow or arc of prismatic colors appearing in the heavens opposite the sun and caused by the refraction and reflection of the sun's rays in drops of rain."
- Webster's Dictionary

"Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue. And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true"
- E.Y. Harburg

In the past fifteen years of creating stories with children, I have noticed certain constants, certain themes which occur time and again. Flying, stars, monsters, and rainbows.

We present you here a gallery of stories, many of which are about rainbows or rainbow colors. Why this universal fascination? What memories, real or imagined; what thoughts, hopes, dreams come to mind on those rare occasions when that "bow or arc of prismatic colors" appears? We may comprehend the scientific explanation, and yet, the magic and wonder remain as we behold that rainbow arc, that bridge between what we know to be and those "dreams that we dare to dream."

So here are the dreams of your children. Wonderful stories and songs created by the extraordinary children of the Child Study Center in Brooklyn and Staten Island. We invite you to share their stories, their songs, their dreams.
